US Ambassador to the EU Anthony Gardner visited the European University Institute on 18 April for a conference on EU Foreign, Security and Migration Policy, co-organized by the Max Weber Programme and James Madison University.

In an interview with EUI Times, Ambassador Gardner raised the importance for the US of having a solid, unified EU as a strategic partner in the world.  He expressed measured optimism that the multiple crises the EU faces, from migration to security, could eventually have a fortifying effect on the unity of the 28 member states. He also mentioned the importance of TTIP as a geo-strategic partnership, with the US and the EU as world leaders in shaping the future course of globalized trade.
