The birth of the modern global city

On 6 and 7 December the EUI’s Europe and the World Forum, in collaboration with the University of Warwick, is hosting a workshop to discuss the rise of the city. Speakers include professors from Brazil, the Netherlands, Portugal and the UK. Over the two days participants will discuss the historical development of cities such as Manila, Nagasaki and Rio de Janeiro. More information can be found on the EUI events webpage.

Lessig on policymakers

On 19 December Professor Lawrence Lessig will deliver a lecture on ‘The integrity and independence of policymakers’. Lessig will be visiting from Harvard, where he is currently the Roy L Furman Professor of Law and director of the Edmond J Safra Center for Ethics. Pluralism conference in France

The Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies is co-organising a conference on tolerance, pluralism and social cohesion to be held in Lyon on 24 and 25 January. The event will bring together the 17 partner institutions of the Accept Pluralism project to discuss diversity in European schools and local exclusion policies.
